Faith and Football
Everyone loves a good story, and it's through those stories that we see how God is working in our lives and in the lives of those around us.
This Sunday we'll tackle both faith and football in our worship gatherings! We have the opportunity to hear from several NFL players (via video) about how their walk with Christ is tested and strengthened on and off the field.
Testimonies from Benjamin Watson and Prince Amukamara are certainly worth hearing. Players like Jordan Matthews, C.J. Beathard, Ben Garland and Levine Toilolo from the San Francisco 49ers along with Kansas City Chiefs players Stefan Wisniewski and Anthony Sherman will play Sunday in the biggest game of their lives. They are also committed Christ followers. Football is their profession, but it's also a platform to tell others about God.
GracePointe doesn't offer Football Sunday because the speaking staff needs a break. We know that Football Sunday is a powerful way to open our doors to those who may not normally come to church. Perhaps you are a regular attender and serve faithfully, but need to hear an encouraging story! Maybe you're someone who looks forward to Football Sunday every year. Whether you come every Sunday, or it's been a while since you've attended church, know that GracePointe has a seat saved for you.
While the Super Bowl may be the pinnacle of a football player's career, they know that the game won't last forever. And for us, our time in our careers and communities will not last indefinitely either. As you pray about this Sunday, ask God to bring to mind the neighbor, co-worker, friend, or family member who might just say "yes" to your invitation this Sunday. May we all be able to claim these words from 2 Timothy 4:7, " I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."
